Dental implants are a thoroughly modern way for your dentist to replace your missing teeth. At Staplehurst Dental Practice in Kent, our implant team have helped scores of patients not just to make over their smile, but also to enjoy an improved quality of life with the help of implants. Read on to discover how you could join them. . .
Dental implants are bionic tooth roots. Teeth comprise crowns and roots, and implants are the only way for your dentist to replace the root part of any teeth you have lost. They are placed in direct contact with the jaw bone in a minor surgical procedure. This is carried out by a skilled implant dentist here at our Kent practice, and requires just a local anaesthetic.
In some cases, mostly people who need to replace all the teeth in one jaw, dental implants and new teeth can be fitted on the same day in a procedure known as All-on-4 implants. In other cases it is best to leave the implants for a few months to heal. During this healing period your jaw bone will start to grow around your implants, providing a very strong anchor when your dentist attaches your permanent new teeth a couple of months later.
Depending on your needs, your dentist will use crowns, a bridge, or dentures to replace the crown portion of your natural teeth. These are permanently attached to your implants, although in the case of dentures you will still be able to take them out for cleaning. However, there is no danger of them becoming loose or falling out.
Implants offer many advantages, including the ability to eat whatever you like. At our Kent practice we can help patients with loose dentures regain control of their life with the help of implants.
